Your Happiness is Not Your Teenager's Responsibility

Reese Hendricks is a high school counselor in Minnesota, his article Your Happiness is Not Your Teenager's Responsibility  talks about understanding our own motivations and needs and how they impact our own decision making process.  This self evaluation is an important process; it involves a good deal of real listening both to ourselves and our kids.

In The Tool Box, Chapter 3, Nuts and Bolts: Get Connected by Listening & Communicating, we discuss how to listen more effectively  and enable better communication by using several skills such as reflective listening and clarifying questions -   both help to break frustrating cycles. It is amazing how much more likely we are to get what want when we begin the communication process with listening!
